To reduce the impact of plastic waste globally, IHG has teamed up with UK-based The Fine Bedding Company to create plush hotel bedding from single-use plastic bottles that are often discarded and repurposed in eco-factories. The bedding company has recycled more than 3 million water bottles into a cozy filling for the duvets and pillows for IHG guest rooms across the world.

InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) has around 6,000 hotels in the world and the majority of them are franchised. Being in the hospitality industry for decades, IHG not only works on offering luxury amenities to the guests but also to contribute its bit to minimizing the global plastic waste footprint.

Both companies have created something that the hospitality sector has never seen. With sustainable bedding, a new standard has been set in the hospitality world. As the world is trying to recover from the huge impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the focus remains on how to move toward sustainability at home as well as in public places like hotels.

Looking at the events of this year, we all need to work proactively to protect the planet. It’s become important than ever to come up with ideas like this and work together to protect the environment. What IHG and The Fine Bedding Company are doing for the environment in their respective industries is indeed commendable. We certainly need more initiatives like this to decrease the impact of plastic waste on the environment globally.
