Designed by Chengdu, China-born and New York-based industrial designer Kebei Li, BIFUR (short for bifurcation) is a portable, compact scale that comes in the shape of a minimalist foldable tripod-like arms structure.
The unique design aspect of this scale is that it can be easily set up from the collapsed bar shape state to its expanded tripod platform shape just by expanding (or bifurcating) its upper two arms in the opposite direction.
BIFUR – A weighing scale with simple and clean design
Due to its minimalist and simple design, the product has also been awarded a Gold Winner in the Professional Cooking Category at the Parmigiano Reggiano Design Challenge 2021.
Hailed as a minimalist yet effective tool, this tiny scale can become indispensable in your kitchen. You can expand it to weigh the ingredients during food preparation and also to measure the cooking time.
After your meal is ready, the device can fold down just like tripod arms into a small baton. So, it’s easier to stash it into any kitchen drawer without taking up any extra space.
Scale design and features
BIFUR scale has a lightweight polycarbonate casing with die-casted zinc alloy joints. It even includes a lithium-ion battery along with capacitive touch controls on the top. The main arm of BIFUR comes with a control panel, including on/off function, unit change, timer, and tare.
Under each of its three arms, there are strain gauge load cell sensors to sense and collect weight input and calculate the weight.
For instance, the timer enables the users to perform a time-tracked cooking process or precisely brew their coffee. The weight and time are displayed on the device’s LCD. Furthermore, the LED matrix display features an effortless touch interface.
