What are the benefits of drinking coffee

Coffee has well-known benefits associated with it. Coffee contains caffeine, antioxidants, tannins, fixed oil, carbohydrates, and some proteins. These ingredients help lower the risk of Alzheimer’s disease, coronary heart disease, heart strokes, diabetes and kidney disease in people who drink about 2-3 cups of coffee per day

Christina Wee, editor of the study, says:

“It’s huge. There are very few things that reduce your mortality by 30%.” She also revealed that the major caveat to the findings  of the study was that the study was observational and other variables like dietary habits and active lifestyle (that may  or may not have influenced the findings) are not considered.

Caveats

“This is an observational study, which means the data cannot conclusively prove that coffee itself lowers the risk of dying; there may be other lifestyle factors contributing to that lower mortality risk among people who drink coffee, like   a healthy diet or a consistent exercise routine”. – Dr. Christina Wee, deputy editor  at Annals of Internal Medicine.

The amount  of sugar in coffee

The average amount of sugar per coffee drank by the research participants was slightly more than a teaspoon (4 grams) - which is far less than what people generally use for a cup of coffee. FYI, Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino has 73 grams of sugar in a grande serving. Such coffee drinks neutralize any possible benefits of it.
